Instagram Ad Trends for Autumn 2026

Instagram Ad Trends for Autumn 2026

Autumn never gets the attention it deserves. Every year, it appears out of summer’s shadow, and before long is totally eclipsed by winter and Christmas. Okay, you’ve got Black Friday in autumn, but with so many brands’ attention fixed solely on that, what’s left for the rest of the season?

Think of early autumn as the calm before the Black Friday storm. A time to test creatives and warm up audiences before ad costs climb and everyone piles in at once. That’s where trends come in. The right Instagram trend can help your ads and brand stand out while feeds are still quiet. Here are our autumn trend picks. Let’s find the ones that are right for you.

Trends change, but the fundamentals stay the same

Before chasing new, shiny trends, it’s worth remembering the basic things every Instagram ad needs. You still have a split-second to stop people scrolling, so always lead with your hook. Plenty of people scroll with the sound off, so your visuals and on-screen text need to do the heavy lifting. Also, we’re still finding that a lot of the time, ads that look like organic posts are continuing to beat ads that look like ads.

The most basic fundamental you need to keep an eye on is clarity. One clear offer. One CTA. Give people too many choices, and they’ll just scroll past whatever it is you’re offering. Finally, the most important thing you can do in the run-up to busier times is test. Launch two or three creative variations, rather than relying on one.

Remember, trends are just new packaging for these principles. Get the fundamentals right, and the trends become far easier to use well.

If you’re struggling with where to start, working with an Instagram ads agency can help you find out what trends and ads are best for your brand before you put your Black Friday budget on the line.

Three trends worth your time this autumn

Storytelling carousels

Carousels are having a little moment right now, with some of them even outperforming Reels. A storytelling carousel can take the viewer from problem to fix, one swipe at a time, for up to 20 slides – though we’d definitely recommend only using the slides you need.

On the subject of slides, many brands don’t account for the fact that Instagram can reshow your carousel ad from the second slide. What that means for your messaging is that slide number 2 needs to work as a hook in its own right.

Twist-icles

These are listicles, but with a little something, something sprinkled in. Take a boring headline, like ‘Seven ways to blah blah blah’, and switch up the intro to something more interesting. Think ‘Five outrageous tactics for…’ – you get the picture. For a lot of brands, odd and specific beats boring and generic. It’s more human.

Twist-icles are also incredibly low-effort to produce. With decent brand imagery, you can probably knock out several versions to test, each with different captions.

The deadline hook

This is the trend that brings us closest to Black Friday – the day of deals and ticking timers. All you have to do is frame your ad around a date. “If you want X before Christmas, here’s what you need to do this week.”

Anything that feels time-limited feels more valuable. If something’s finite, generally speaking, people are much more likely to pay attention to it, whether that’s saving, commenting, sharing or buying. Just make sure the deadline is real.

Knowing which trends to hop on

Not every trend deserves your budget. The ones that do are the ones that fit your brand or product, and speak directly to your customers and followers. They should also be ads you can produce reasonably well.

Think about the goal you want an ad to achieve, too. A trend like storytelling carousels is great for introducing a brand and building trust in the early stages of your relationship. A deadline hook is something more immediate and actionable, perhaps more suited to a warmer audience.

Knowing which trends to avoid

Skip anything that clashes with your tone. A solicitors’ firm jumping on a Gen Z audio meme probably isn’t going to resonate with its target audience. Also, for deadline deals, avoid fake scarcity. Nothing erodes brand trust like the feeling of being lied to. Inaccurate claims can also fall foul of ASA rules.

To mention timing again, beware of trends that are already peaking. There’s a sweet spot for brands jumping on whatever’s popular – too soon and the trend isn’t established, too late and it’s gone stale. Also, you need to remember that if a trend buries your offer, it’s not the right trend for you.

Ready for the storm

Use these last few weeks before Black Friday to test, tweak and find the trends that genuinely fit your brand. And while you’re at it, make the most of Instagram’s new option to add posts you’re tagged in to your grid. A few genuine customer posts on your profile will back up every ad you run.
